childThere are several regulations which constrain the location of new ECE centres which are situated adjacent to major strategic or arterial roadways.

AirQuality Limited can provide cost-effective monitoring data for a range of contaminants to assess and/or support your application.

The draft unitary plan and technical guidance to the Ministry of Education both stipulate minimum distances from motorways and major arterial roading networks as part of the approval process.

In situations where early childhood education centres are situated adjacent to a major road, we recommend monitoring for both respirable dust or PM10 and nitrogen dioxide or NO2 a gas resulting from motor vehicle combustion. Depending upon the location, a range of monitoring options are available including screening assessment tools through to full reference station enclosures.

AirQuality Limited can offer advice on the most appropriate monitoring method, the contaminants to monitor for and the length of time necessary to obtain good quality data.

In many cases, it is possible to assess the air quality by performing a screening level assessment. This involves deploying specialist instrumentation for a set period of time (recommended for 3 months) and comparing the results against national standards or guidelines. In some cases it may be necessary to perform a comparative analysis with a reference station to account for seasonal and interannual variation.

If the initial assessment reveals elevated concentrations close to relevant standards, then a more detailed assessment may be required. This normally involves the installation of a reference station with an air-conditioned enclosure and mains power. It is also normally recommended that a small wind sensor be deployed to measure wind speed and direction unless an existing weather station is situated nearby.

Pricing is dependent upon:

  • The length of time you wish to monitor for
  • The type of equipment you wish to use
  • Whether you wish to purchase or rent the monitoring instrumentation
  • The level of data validation and reporting
  • Whether an instrument enclosure is required
  • Whether mains or solar powered options are required
  • Whether wind speed and direction also need to be measured

Our clients tell us that we offer very competitive quotes for both the supply and operation of these instruments.
