OVERVIEW

The proximity of new housing developments to existing broiler and egg-laying poultry farms frequently results in new odour complaints arising from the new property owners. This urban encroachment can often be a source of contention for poultry farmers and residents alike.

Airquality Limited can monitor emissions and measure the odour unit concentration from the facilities to identify firstly whether there is an issue and if so, assist with selecting the most cost effective solution to address any odour issues.

AirQuality Limited can also offer continuous ammonia monitoring within the poultry sheds. The output can be configured to increase fan speed when concentrations exceed a pre-set threshold.

AirQuality Limited can offer advice on the most appropriate monitoring method, the contaminants to monitor for and the length of time necessary to obtain good quality data.

MONITORING OPTIONS

Odour Assessment
We work closely with our clients to identify the best solution for their needs. This may vary from an initial odour assessment involving collection and testing of emissions from the poultry plant through to installing continuous perimeter sensors to monitor offsite emissions.

There are a variety of techniques we can use to assess odour, however in most cases it is necessary to sample the air discharge from the poultry shed to firstly quantify the odour concentration and secondly identify the major odour causing species in the discharge. This information can then be used to identify the best solution for resolving any odour problems that may exist.
